Hospitals play a key role in disaster readiness throughout our country. Since the terrorist attacks of September 11 and the subsequent anthrax scare, the hospitals of Northern Nevada have stepped up their readiness efforts in order to be better prepared in our response, not only to traditional disaster threats, but to an even more real potential of terrorist attacks, including the use of chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons. The hospitals of Northern Nevada understand that we are vital to our communities. We have emergency response plans in place and an ability to quickly increase the number of beds and staff should the need arise. We run drills to prepare for catastrophic events and work alongside police, fire, rescue, and other public safety services to achieve an effective state of readiness in our communities.
